Topaz

Nobility and Diversity

The name of topaz comes from the Greek word topazos, which means search, mainly due to the fact that in the ancient times it was already one of the most precious and desired gemstones. Topaz is an alumina-silicate mineral that contains fluorine. Topaz can have many different colours: light or dark blue, cyan, yellow-green, golden, orange, pink, light purple and violet-blue. There are also colourless as well as red and red-purple topazes with different shades. Topaz usually has a step or brilliant cut (colourless gemstones). Fancy cuts with many facets are also popular. Large topaz deposits are located in Brazil, Russia, Sri Lanka and Madagascar. They can also be mined in Poland, in the Jizera Mountains.
